Our story is simple, my family has had a long history with the Denver and Rio Grande railroad and I grew up on trains and in train yards, hence my name Jon Henry, my wife’s family are huge rail fans as well. My wife, Heather, and I have always wanted a train themed house and one day she saw the caboose on Facebook market place in Post Falls and said she wanted to buy a caboose. So we bought a caboose! Of the hundreds of people interested in it, no one could figure out how to easily transport it! Quotes came back at $12,000-$28,000 from one company I spoke to and a quote from the seller. I looked at it and the obstacles involved and said we need a lowboy and a crane! I called a buddy who put me in contact with Ryan at GRT crane services in Spirit lake and another buddy told me about Justin at JW Hauling for a lowboy truck! They both surveyed the job and said no problem! We bought the caboose on that note. Grand total of moving it was way less. A lot of people were mad at us for such a simple move. We spent the next 5 months tearing it down, washing, scrubbing, sanding, welding, bending, polishing and painting to what you see today. Heather gets the credit for a lot of the tedious labor to get it to where it is now. The only work hired out was my friend Justin who welded the beams on each side for the new platforms, everything else was done by us! Thrift stores and the Re-store were awesome in finding the Cupola seats, the kitchen sink and cabinets and also We-Haul moving for our furniture from their stockpile. We can’t wait to have guests, the guests we’ve had so far have raved about the caboose! Even in -10°!
We plan to open year round and welcome everyone and their pets! This spring a covered patio and dog run will be built.

PS. If you want a really successful marriage, don’t buy a caboose and redo it on a personal budget with a timeline!
